What is Management Accounting?
Management Accounting is concerned with the ways in which accounting information is made available to managers within organisations to enable them to make informed business decisions. Management Accounting combines accounting, finance and management with cutting edge techniques needed to run a business successfully. Chartered Management Accountants help businesses to adapt to changing environments in order to maintain profitability and improve their value. They would perform financial functions while also providing information and advice to aid decision-making with regards to a company's future.
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is the world's largest professional body of management accountants and its qualifications are highly sought after in the field of Management Accounting. CIMA Global's members are qualified to work in various sections of an organisation, not only in finance, which certainly distinguishes prospective employees with CIMA qualifications from other applicants. The skills they are taught through CIMA studies include analysing information, formulating business strategies, identifying and managing risk, planning, budgeting, and communicating their findings to non-financial managers.
CIMA qualifications and courses:

The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting forms the basis of further Management Accounting Qualifications and is ideal for students who need an introduction into the world of Management Accounting, Financial Accounting and Business. This programme provides the fundamentals of Business Accounting so that students can become familiar with the basic business and management principles. Attention is also given to basic Business Economics and Business Law, as the ultimate role of a Management Accountant is to give sound advice based on these principles. The first step in becoming a Chartered Management Accountant is mastering the fundamentals of Accounting.

cima professional qulification: operational level

This programme builds on the fundamentals of Accounting and Management to teach students how decisions are made and performance is evaluated. As the courses build on each other, you first need to complete the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting before you can start with this course.

The CIMA Professional Qualification: Operational Level (Diploma)is the first of three levels of exams building towards the end goal of becoming a qualified Chartered Management Accountant. There are three exam papers prescribed at each level, so before students can attempt the TOPCIMA programme, they need to pass all nine exams and obtain their full Professional Qualifications at these three levels.

Please Note: Although it is possible for students to study an Operational Paper in one pillar and a Management Paper in other pillar, we advise students to first pass the Operational Level before attempting the Management Level, as they need to pass all six papers at these two levels before they can move on to the Strategic Level.

The CIMA Professional Qualification: Strategic Level Course is the last level of Professional Qualification. Before entering this programme, you first need to complete the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting, the CIMA Professional Qualification: Operational Level and the CIMA Professional Qualification: Managerial Level.

This CIMA Certificate builds on the fundamentals of analysis to teach students how to interpret their findings and make predictions accordingly. The main focus is placed on developing strategies, so students can expect to learn more about the following: formulating business strategies, formulating financial strategies, formulating risk and control strategies, negotiating projects or loans, offering advice on improving business performance, offering advice on business planning, etc.

The final course in this group is the CIMA Professional Qualification: TOPCIMA. In total, students should now have passed all nine exams prescribed in the previous three levels. They are also required to gain three years relevant working experience before attempting this final test.

The TOPCIMA programme consists of a practical exam to test your professional competence in Management Accounting. You would need to use all your acquired skills and accounting techniques to make decisions in a simulated business environment. In other words, you would be presented with specific data about a certain company and be expected to make business decisions based on what you have learned during the previous three levels. Your success would depend on how well you execute this exam and exhibit your knowledge, as becoming a qualified Chartered Management Accountant would place you in a position of great power and responsibility. What is the ACCA?

ACCA stands for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, which is a leading international accountancy body. Its members are required to pass a series of examinations in order to qualify. The qualification is internationally recognised and is treated in other countries as being equivalent to the local one.
The examinations cover all aspects of business management from the purely technical - such as bookkeeping and cost accounting - to the more theoretical aspects such as motivational theory and theories of risk.
The ACCA qualification delivers professional accountants who are capable of building successful careers across all sectors, from practising in accounting firms, to the corporate, financial services and public sectors
In this respect it is very similar to an MBA, but it offers a much more practical emphasis. The qualification is not aimed at any one particular business sector - the examinations cover all areas of business management.
The ACCA Qualification is designed to deliver a broad-based qualification, focusing on the essential skills of accounting, business and finance - without introducing unnecessary barriers to membership. It offers a choice of examinations and work experience competences to allow students and their sponsors to tailor the path of the qualification to suit their needs and aspirations.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

What is U.S. CPA?

The Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is the highest accounting credential in the U.S. and is similar to the CA Qualification in India.
The CPA title is awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant.

U.S. CPA is an individual with thorough and complete knowledge of Accounting principles of the U.S. So, if you want to work in or for U.S. firms, understanding its accounting laws is essential.
U.S. CPA members and students play a vital role in both 'practice' and 'industry' in sectors such as financial services, banking, manufacturing, construction, education and consultancy.

The services of U.S. CPA are required in all areas of the business world
• Assurance and Attest Services
• Financial Accounting
• Management Consulting and Performance Management
• Information Technology
(especially as applied to accounting and auditing)
• Corporate Finance
(Merger & Acquisition, initial public offerings, share & debt issuings)
• Financial Planning
• Financial Analysis
• Venture Capital
• Forensic Accounting
(preventing, detecting, and investigating financial frauds)
• Tax Preparation and Planning
• Estate Planning
• Corporate Governance

• Income Tax
While some CPAs are generalists and may offer a range of services (especially those in small practices) many CPAs specialize in just one area and may provide only one of the services listed above.

OVERVIEW

We often see people who are citizens of other countries in our courses. They tell us that a U.S. CPA certificate is valuable on a resume for someone in international business.

There are 54 different offices in the U.S.A. to which you can send an application to become a U.S. CPA (that's right, 54!). Each of the 50 states issues its own CPA certificate, as do Washington D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Education and experience requirements vary by state.

If you know the state in which you would like to apply, see the state boards. If you aren't sure in which state to apply, you are looking at the right page. Keep reading......
________________________________________

The minimum educational requirement to sit for the U.S. CPA exam is generally a four year university degree. Most states require 150 university semester hours before you can sit for the CPA exam.

You can not take the U.S. CPA examination outside the U.S. It is offered only in the U.S.A.

Once you have passed the exam in one state you can transfer to another state. You will have to meet the education and experience requirements of the new state, but normally you are given credit for having already passed the CPA exam.

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS

The CPA certificate is not directly comparable to the articles of a chartered accountant. A chartered accountant who wishes to have a U.S. CPA certificate must take the exam to become a U.S. CPA. The only exception is a special examination for members of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) and the Instituto Mexicano De Contadores Publicos (IMCP). The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) web site has information on the IQEX examination. (On that page click "EXAMS" then "IQEX")
